The iPhone 5S Revisited – iPhone 5S Quick Review

Having trouble deciding on what phone to buy and somebody has offered you an iPhone 5S and you don’t know whether it’s worth the price or not? Chillax. We’re here to help you decide.

iPhone 5S
First things first, the iPhone 5S has received a massive price cut! Why? Well because it’s now more than 2 years old and has been superseded by the far superior iPhone 6S. But even with its massive decline in price, is it still worth the purchase?

Size
The flagship mobile phones of the major players in the industry have shifted towards large screens. The norm nowadays is having a 5-inch screen or bigger. The iPhone 5S has a 4-inch screen vibrant, high-def, lag free screen which no other Android phone within that size could match. The iPhone 5S reigns supreme in the 4-inch territory. So if you’re considering to grab a small phone, the iPhone 5S would fit the bill. Of course, the design is timeless so it won’t matter even if the device is already 2 years old.

Performance
The iPhone 5s uses A7 chip (64-bit) of Apple, which is powerful enough for the average user. Having a 64-bit processor means that it would be compatible with a lot of newer games and apps. However, the iPhone 5S isn’t as fast and smooth as the iPhone 6. Its RAM is the main issue especially if you’re browsing the net with lots of tabs open or chatting with a lot of friends on Facebook messenger.

Camera
The 8 Megapixel camera iSight camera is something that holds up quite well up to today’s standards. It has a large sensor and wide ƒ/2.2 aperture with True Tone flash. Burst mode is also available and the ever-popular slo-mo video capturing capabilities.
Support
There’s a bit of a downside when it comes to support. Apple has openly admitted that the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch devices are the ones that they would support. This means that third-party accessory makers will concentrate on making cases, speaker docks, and other devices for those sizes.
VERDICT If you’re on a tight budget, is the iPhone 5S the right phone for you? It’s a resounding yes! Even though it’s an “old” phone (2 years old), it has aged pretty well. It’s amazing how Apple can pack so many features in such a small phone. The iPhone 5S is highly recommended even in 2016. 🙂

  1. Just a question, what is the retail price of this phone when it was first released? Is it around $600? My Mom wants to buy an iPhone for quite a while now but the price is making her hesitate. Now, the iPhone 5S seems to be a really good buy with its price.

Another thing, I believe iPhone 5s is the first iPhone to have the slo-mo video capture, so it’s really nice to have this feature as well.

  2. How much is the iPhone 5s shipping for now? the phone is a good phone and since apple made it aluminum it’ll take dame damage better. but is it worth it?

  3. Hey, spencer22. Oh, that’s a very good name. 😀
How much is it shipping? What the review says, $285. I’ll say it’s definitely worth it. The price drop has more than doubled than the price from the original release. iPhone 5s has never become more attractive than it is now.

  4. I really love this phone. I really can’t believe that the price of this phone has changed it $285. I was not able to buy this phone because the previous price was around $700-$800. I will definitely buy this phone. Thank you very much for your update. If we compare this phone to the latest iPhone 6s, would this phone get a better rating? (Well, the price is much lesser).

  5. Exactly before, I was Android kind of guy because the price for I phone was out of my reach. But after seeing this price it completely changed my mind. I really like the phone and with this price its even better. I really recommend this item to everyone.

  6. Hello, this phone has some pretty good features. Apple always ceases to amaze me. I love the colors they are so pretty and I absolutely adore the fingerprint scan unlock.I would recommend this phone to everyone and siri got smarter.

  7. Wow, iPhone 5 is already 2 years old!
I wonder how much longer IOS updates will be available to it for?
Apple are not fully transparent with how long something will be supported for so it does feel like it comes with a risk going for an older model…..justifies the price cut I guess.

  8. I really like iPhone and Android. Of the smartphones I would take these two any day. What’s really sad is the windows phone, I don’t even know why they bother anymore. It had so much potential and was just wasted. These are great phones, though, and can’t wait to see what Apple comes out with next!

  9. I have noticed lately that in the game store, a lot of the newer games are pretty much designed for the larger five and six inch screens, so is it really beneficial to go back to the smaller size if you are limited in what you can do with it? Personally, I don’t have problems with the smaller phone, I have a small one myself so it’s not a big deal, but then again, my Android phone only cost me around $10.00. (It was remanufactured.) I think if the phone is going to cost you over a hundred dollars it should be able to handle any apps with ease.

  10. The verdict was: “If you’re on a tight budget, is the iPhone 5S the right phone for you? It’s a resounding yes!” a proper one would be: use this same money to buy a better android phone.

  11. I’ve had an iPhone 5S for at least 18 months. It’s never failed, and been really nice to use. I like the way it fits easily into your pocket – even a small shirt pocket. I’ve done a lot of photography with the phone, and the quality is very good. The files are well worth processing in Lightroom to get the best out of your pictures.
